چکیده

B-scan Echocardiographic images unlikely carry unlikely images by scattering of ultrasound beams backed from structures within the body organ that is being scanned. Two major types of scatterings are diffused and coherent scatterings. Diffuse scatterings are caused when there are a large number of scatterers is with random phase within the resolution cell of the ultrasound beam and causes speckles in the reconstructed image; whereas the e coherent scattering arises when the scatterers in the resolution cell are in phase and causes light or dark spots in the image. Rayleigh distribution is the most common statistical model for the envelope signal and assumes that a large number of scatterers per resolution cell exist. However in some ultrasonic imaging fields such as echocardiography, Rayleigh distribution fits to reflect properties of reflections from blood but fails with complex structures such as myocardial tissue. The K distribution , on the other hand, was initially designed for the envelope signal and have been proposed to model different kinds of tissue in ultrasound envelope imaging. This distribution also has the advantage to model both fully and partially developed speckle. The first-order envelope statistics have been thought to follow a Rayleigh distribution, but recent work has shown that more general models, such as the Nakagami, K, and homodyned K distributions better describe envelope statistics.

Speckle Noise Reduction for the Enhancement of Retinal Layers in Optical Coherence Tomography Images

Introduction One of the most important pre-processing steps in optical coherence tomography (OCT) is reducing speckle noise, resulting from multiple scattering of tissues, which degrades the quality of OCT images. Materials and Methods The present study focused on speckle noise reduction and edge detection techniques. Statistical filters with different masks and noise variances were applied on ...

A Noise Resistive Transtexture Based Delineation of Left Ventricle in Echocardiographic Images

Echocardiography is the predominant technique for quantitative assessment of cardiac function. This paper presents a new noise resistive method for segmenting echocardiographic images using fuzzy logic and texture properties. In echocardiographic images, the transition between blood pool and myocardium is significant, which reflects as variations in texture properties. Our edge detection method...

Speckle Reduction in Synthetic Aperture Radar Images in Wavelet Domain Exploiting Intra-scale and Inter-scale Dependencies

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images are inherently affected by a multiplicative noise-like phenomenon called speckle, which is indeed the nature of all coherent systems. Speckle decreases the performance of almost all the information extraction methods such as classification, segmentation, and change detection, therefore speckle must be suppressed. Despeckling can be applied by the multilooki...

Edge Preserved Speckle Noise Reduction Using Integrated Fuzzy Filters

Echocardiographic images are inherent with speckle noise which makes visual reading and analysis quite difficult. The multiplicative speckle noise masks finer details, necessary for diagnosis of abnormalities. A novel speckle reduction technique based on integration of geometric, wiener, and fuzzy filters is proposed and analyzed in this paper. The denoising applications of fuzzy filters are st...

Speckle Reduction in Synthetic Aperture Radar Images in Wavelet Domain Using Laplace Distribution

Speckle is a granular noise-like phenomenon which appears in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images due to coherent properties of SAR systems. The presence of speckle complicates both human and automatic analysis of SAR images. As a result, speckle reduction is an important preprocessing step for many SAR remote sensing applications. Speckle reduction can be made through multi-looking during the...

Extended ratio edge detector for despeckled SAR image evaluation

Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images due to the usage of coherent imaging systems are affected by speckle. So lots of despeckling filters have been introduced up to now to suppress the speckle. Hence, objective and subjective evaluation of the denoised SAR images becomes a necessity. Thereby lots of objective evaluating estimators are introduced to evaluate the performance of despeckling filte...
